Strange but true fact, every member of The Halo Effect was previously a member of In Flames. Probably the most important of the Gothenburg Melodic Death Metal bands after At The Gates. These guys have been part of the scene since the late 80’s and early 90’s and clearly they are seasoned and know what they are doing because while playing it safe sound wise and not taking too many risks, Days of the Lost is better than anything In Flames has put out in over a decade.

Soaring guitar solos, perfectly planned and catchy choruses, and great bouncy riffs, Days of the Lost kicks off with the first single “Shadowminds”, a perfect example of everything that is about to come. “In Broken Trust” gives us the first taste of Mikael Stanne’s clean vocals in a more subdued track. The title track “Days of the Lost” is perfectly constructed Melodeath at its finest.

Days of the Lost is proof that the melodeath scene still has some blood left after being neutered by In Flames over the years. The album has teeth and quite a few bangers. The team here has crafted a great comeback for the genre and while decidedly safe, it’s consistent and that’s better than their peers have given us in a long time.
